Pheasants

Hi,

I just read in the book, "The Upland Game Hunter's Bible" about how hard it is to find, let alone shoot, a pheasant. Mr. Holland says, on page 21, that "A cock pheasant is undoubtedly the orneriest, most contemptible, low-down, miserable bird that a hunter ever had to contend with. There's no trick he doesn't know or won't use. Where possible he'll drop his head and tail to the ground and sneak away like a thief in the night, miraculously inconspicuous even in thin cover; if he can see his way clear, he'll dig in and, with head and tail high, run like a race horse; He'll squat within two feet of a hunter's feet, and let the man walk right past him; and he'll fly only when he is cornered -a rare thing-or when it is strictly to his advantage. And when he does jump, he'll do so with a flash of color and a raucous cackle that will throw a man's timing about twenty degrees off center. All of which is high praise. More power to him. And all of which makes the subject of how to hunt pheasants difficult to define."

All of this makes me very eager to go on my first pheasant hunt, and I will let you know how it goes after we do it.

Early Birthday Gift!!!

Hello,

Yesterday Dad, Andrew, & I went to Bismarck. While we were there, Dad bought Andrew & I both a brand new Remington 870 Express shotgun!! We shopped around awhile, and bought them at Scheels.

Here is a picture of me with my shotgun after we got home.

Today, one of our hunting friends stopped by, & we had a good chat. Andrew & I showed him our guns. He said that the 870 is the most popular & reliable pump shotguns on the market.

Thank you, Dad, for a gift I will always remember.

Cows :(

Hello,



Today we (Dad, Andrew & I) went up to our pasture to fix the fence; put electric fence up; & to move the cows into their new cell. As Dad & I came over a hill, we saw 2 cows, a bull, & 2 calves about a mile from where they should be.



After about 15 minutes of chasing, we had the bull, 1 cow & 1 calf going the right way, but the other cow & calf were running in any direction that we didn't want them to go. That was what the cow was always doing. Well, about half way through chasing her through the neighbor's sunflower field, Andrew joined us. We got her in the right place, & then went to work on the fence.



While we were down by the water, which is just a lake in the middle of nowhere, we wanted to take some posts out of the water. Seeing as we don't have a boat, we couldn't take them out. Then Andrew found a duck boat that some hunting friends of ours have, & they said we could use it whenever we wanted to. So, Andrew & I went out on the water & brought in the posts. I have a picture of us in the boat, but it isn't on the computer, so I will put it on later.

BIG R/C!

Hi,
I have found yet another video for you. This time it is about a VERY big R/C (remote controlled) airplane. Now, if you watch the video, you will see that this is no small plane, having 4 engines, retracting landing gear, HUGE wingspan & fuselage length, & taking two people to operate it!


I wouldn't want to crash that thing! If you did, you would be out of a couple thousand bucks.

I know I just posted about this subject, but I found this movie & even though it isn't the best quality, and it isn't in our language, He does a pretty good run.



Now, there is quite a bit of controversy about his save/rollover, but this is the only time I have seen a save like that, & I don't think anybody else could do it.

Flight!

Hi,
Just in case you don't know, I am a future pilot-in-the-making. I have found a married couple who are professional flight instructors who sell video courses. Their names are John & Martha King.

I enjoy going to the King's website, which can be found at http://www.kingschools.com. I have learned a lot by watching little video clips, such as the one below that I found on YouTube. (you can find more clips there)



Mr. King makes it look easy, but it isn't. Taking off is the 2nd hardest normal flight operation there is, but he has had a lot of practice. So, when I have had a LOT more practice, I should be able to do that too.
